The Public Safety Broadband Technology Association (PSBTA) is honored to host a FirstNet Congressional Briefing and working lunch. Following the horrific events of 9/11 when first responders and citizens tragically lost their lives, there became an immediate call to action. The paralyzing communications issues that occurred gave us the realization that technology would need to advance and accelerate to meet the needs of public safety across
this great nation. The result was that Congress passed Public Law 112-96 in 2012 which established the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN). Today, this NPSBN network is the envy of the world and lives are saved on a daily basis in our hometowns throughout America which are direct, tangible results of the success of FirstNet.
This session is the first of a series of three sessions where we will highlight the important work of Emergency Management in a crisis. We will spotlight the importance of planning and executing during an emergency and hear firsthand from subject matter experts (SMEs) in the field. You will be able to directly ask questions of our SMEs in order to prepare you for future FirstNet conversations. The briefing is timely with the discussion of the pending legislation concerning the “FirstNet Reauthorization Act”. This event will be an excellent opportunity to learn directly about FirstNet as a program that benefits our nation's citizens and first responders in a time of need. Other guests expected to attend include members of the FirstNet Authority and local public safety officials.
