Heroes of FirstNet

FirstNet Authority Board of Directors

The FirstNet Authority Board consists of 15 members with expertise in public safety, technology, finance and public sectors. Many FirstNet Authority staff are either current or former public safety officials. Other members of our staff have technical expertise in broadband and telecom technologies. Collectively, we have deep experience in all public safety disciplines and communication technologies in both the private sector and all levels of government – local, state, federal and tribal. Meet our leadership and the FirstNet Authority Board

Public Safety Advisory Council (PSAC)

Consistent with the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012, the FirstNet Authority was required to establish a Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC). The FirstNet Authority established the PSAC in February 2013 consisting of members representing all disciplines of public safety as well as state, territorial, tribal, and local governments. PSAC also has at-large members and federal members. The mission of the PSAC is to assist the FirstNet Authority in carrying out its duties and responsibilities.

Tribal Advisory Group

Our nation’s 574 federally recognized tribes span 35 states. In addition, 88 Native Hawaiian organizations are registered with the U.S. Department of the Interior. Many tribes possess significant telecommunications capabilities that are economically and politically important to their people and nearby non-tribal communities. Engaging with these nations and organizations is essential to FirstNet’s success and the welfare of American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian (AI/AN/NH) communities.

The PSAC’s Tribal Advocacy Group (TAG), which includes volunteer delegates from associations with diverse geographic and disciplinary interests in tribal public safety, was established to provide advice on Indian Country outreach, education, and inclusive engagement strategies. The intent is to inform and involve federally recognized tribes as it relates to their use of the FirstNet network. The TAG meet monthly via teleconference, and holds several in-person meetings each year.
