After many successful years of operation and growth, the FirstNet Authority is up for Congressional reauthorization. To ensure public safety has continued and uninterrupted access to the FirstNet network and that first responders’ mission-critical communications remain a priority as capabilities evolve and grow, the FirstNet Authority must be reauthorized today.
It is critical that first responders from across the country let Congress know how crucial FirstNet is to our first responders. This dedicated broadband network is vital for current and future public safety technologies, and reauthorization ensures that the current 7 million+ users continue to have access to their network.

By signing this petition, we agree that the FirstNet Authority must be reauthorized prior to its legislative sunset in 2027. The First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority), an independent board that includes public safety executives from the police, fire, and EMS disciplines, was created to oversee the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network (NPSBN) and the private-public partnership. FirstNet has proven that it is an invaluable resource to public safety with 7 million+ connections. The preservation of the network and this framework, in perpetuity, is critical in supporting the growing broadband needs of first responders.
Reauthorizing the FirstNet Authority ensures that the oversight created in 2012 remains in place to continue to hold AT&T accountable on its commitments to public safety across the nation.
Reauthorization affirms public safety’s network will be overseen by public safety on the FirstNet Authority Board and through the Public Safety Advisory Council (PSAC) that reports directly to the Board.
The FirstNet Authority must be reauthorized to preserve this governance framework and ensure public safety has continued and uninterrupted access to the FirstNet network.
