LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – June 30, 2025– At a roundtable hosted by Chief Nathan Mulvey President of the Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs, many public safety leaders gathered Monday at Fern Creek Fire Station #6 in Louisville, Kentucky to discuss the urgent need to reauthorize the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet) and eliminate its 2027 sunset provision.

Congressman Brett Guthrie, Chair of the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, was in attendance to hear firsthand from Fire, EMS, Law Enforcement, Public Safety Communications, and Emergency Management officials on how FirstNet has become a mission-critical communications lifeline.

“Congressman Guthrie’s support means a great deal to first responders across Kentucky and the nation,” said Chief Mulvey. Also, weighing in was Louisville Fire Chief Brian O’Neill, ““FirstNet is an indispensable tool for firefighters that must be protected.”.”

FirstNet now supports over 7 million connections nationwide, delivering dedicated, secure broadband communications for first responders in both routine operations and major disasters. Without timely reauthorization, public safety risks losing its voice in the network’s governance and direction.

“Reauthorizing FirstNet isn’t just smart policy—it’s a matter of public safety,” said John Paul Jones, Executive Director of the Public Safety Broadband Technology Association (PSBTA). “We need certainty, not sunsets.”

Public safety leaders are calling on Congress to act now and ensure the continued success of this critical national asset. Support the reauthorization of the FirstNet Authority to preserve public safety’s network. Sign the Petition today!
